Yes! I agreed with your main point.

I was attempting to make a constructive comment about how the "ethics
versus economics" dichotomy is false, because IMHO, your choice of words
suggested that you were allowing yourself to be dragged into the fiction
that these two approach are somehow in competition.

IOW, you were presenting the economic argument as if it were somehow at
odds with the ethical argument instead of (as I believe it is) essential
to it.

I felt this might be useful to you and to others reading in the process
of forming coherent arguments that are compelling to a wide range of
listeners.

Economics is a process for achieving goals which we may set based on our
ethics -- if there is no process for achieving them, then goals are
useless; likewise if there is no goal, then what use is a process?
