You've missed my point entirely. Please see my other reply.
Free software works because authors DON'T starve to death.
Were they to, it would've failed! What we need for the promotion of free
content is a similarly successful regime for free culture -- NOT a
willingness to starve.
Nor does it automatically follow that the same economic models will work
for content that work for software -- it is quite possible that we must
develop very different strategies for success. Thus, behaving as if the
problem were already solved when it is not is counterproductive.
Please READ before knee-jerk reacting. You respond as if I suggested
that free-licensing art was a bad thing. I did not. I said that
"altruism" is not a good model for promoting it.
