Dear all,

Preparations for the iSummit are well under way. The Dutch iCommons
project team would very much like to organize a workshop about the
development of student courses about Creative Commons, open content and
alternative forms of copyright. We are especially interested in tools
and methods for teaching teachers and lecturers to develop their own
courses about those topics.

We need your help in finding out who else is developing student or
teacher courses on CC and alternative copyright. Also, we would like to
hear from you if you are seriously interested in such a workshop in
Dubrovnik. We know of some initiatives that are mentioned on the
CcEducation wiki (http://wiki.icommons.org/index.php/CcEducation), but
we could do with more info and contact details. Please send your
response to Martijn Arnoldus, ma at kl.nl

To provide you with some bachground information of what we have been
doing in The Netherlands during the last year: in spring 2006, we
developed a 10-weeks course for undergraduate students Communication &
Multimedia Design at the Professional University The Hague, The
Netherlands. With the exception of one piece of literature, only
CC-licensed works were used in the course. The course consisted of
(guest) lectures, workshops, field trips to some organizations and
companies (broadcasting, media) that have to deal with the issue of open
content, a written exam and a student project. For the project we asked
students to develop a multimedia application that would explain the
issue of copyright and Creative Commons to a particular audience (like
photographers, students, film makers). After the course ended we
organized a 'teach-the-teacher' workshop for the university lecturers
with the goal of teaching them how to develop their own courses on
CC/alternative copyright. Following the 2006 course we are now
developing a 'teach-the-teacher' toolkit which will be available to all
universities and educational institutes in The Netherlands.

All the best,
on behalf of the Dutch team,

Martijn Arnoldus
