Friends,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the
Johannesburg planning workshop for the 2008 iCommons Summit from the
17th to the 18th of January. We were so excited by all the great
feedback that we received about the iSummit this year in Dubrovnik -
much of which focussed on making the event more participatory and
interactive - that we realised the best way to build this event
together would be to get as many of you as possible face-to-face to
design it together :)

We're very sorry that we don't have more resources to get you to
South Africa, but if you can possibly make it, we'll be most
grateful. For those who aren't able to come, we'll be facilitating
discussions on these lists and putting everything on the iCommons
wiki as it is discussed in January.

Some of what we'll be looking at in January:
- Inspiration: A look at some of the world’s best conferences
and events and what makes them so successful;

- Goals for the Summit: Brainstorming around the core goals of
the iCommons Summit and how the iSummit can serve the global Creative
Commons community.

- Target audiences: A look at the different target audiences
for the Summit and what they aim to achieve from attending the Summit;

- Brainstorming around the core ‘tracks’ at the Summit i.e.
inspire, debate, learn, show and create, and the CCI Legal Day. Does
this cover everything that needs to be achieved? How can we design
these tracks creatively with maximum impact?

- Track design: Group work to script the tracks and develop a
process for maximum interactivity;

- Project plan: Develop a project timeline for
responsibilities going forward.

This workshop is kindly being funded by the Ford Foundation as part
of the Local Context Global Commons Project (http://www.icommons.org/
nodes/local-context-global-commons). You would have seen some of the
great articles resulting from this project on the iCommons website
and monthly magazine. Anyone is welcome to participate in this
project - all you need is to write at least one article a month, to
attend a planning meeting conference call once a month with the rest
of the team, and to participate in a mailing list to discuss themes
etc. A project meeting for Local Context Global Commons will be held
on the 16th of January - a day before the iSummit workshop begins.
Contact us if you're interested :)

More soon!

Best,
Heather.
