Basically, in the US, as I understand it, anything you make/write, 
whether it is published or not, is copyrighted to you or whomever you 
assign your copyrights to. The only time you would want to register your 
copyright is if the copyrighted work is worth a lot of money, or if you 
plan to litigate over the copyrighted work. Other than that, it is both 
pointless and a waste of your money to register the work. Make sure you 
keep the dates of copyright for your work in-case you do plan to 
register it in the future.
