[cc-community] Against the Science Commons

So, I note with dismay that the long-dormant Science Commons idea has
recently been revived: http://science.creativecommons.org/

I think this is a real mistake. There is already a thriving community in
Open Access publishing, and the need for a scientific wing of Creative
Commons seems tenuous at best.

The mission of the Science Commons is unclear ("Creative Commons... for
SCIENCE!"). The nascent Open Access movement needs support and guidance,
not competition.

I'd suggest dismantling the Science Commons brand and participating as
"Creative Commons" in the Open Access movement. The "Science Commons" is
going to hurt much more than it will help.
