Hello all,
I'm coordinating the design of a licensing structure that allows people to
license their work (literary, educational, software, music, patented work)
for the common good, while ensuring that a percentage of all revenues derived
from commercial uses of their work are diverted to organisations that use
this money to protect our rights regarding intellectual property. Currently,
organisations that work for the common good in this way (Creative Commons,
Free Software Foundation) don't have enough funds to meet their challenges.
This goal of this system is to arrange corporations to pay those fees.
This work is inspired by the success of licenses such as the Creative Commons
licenses and the GNU licenses, as well as alarm at the erosion of rights that
will not only hamper individuals, but eventually cripple the nearsighted
corporations that may be lobbying against the public interest. I'm committed
to coordinating efforts so that we may develop a working solution to these
problems.
You can read more about the proposed license idea at
http://chira.net/clarify/License . Feel free to email me at
license at chira.net regarding any issue related to the ones discussed here.
I would welcome any advice, ideas, cooperation, mentoring, etc. If anyone has
similar concerns or projects I would be honoured to help them as well.
