[BL] gimp-print for BL

The neighbors put out an Epson C80 color printer, does 720 dpi, and came
with yellow and black cartridges (new in box - the built-into-the-printer
print nozzles for these two colors appear to be somewhat clogged and we
need to syringe them), and with a Win/Mac CD. Works in Windows except for
not much black (yet).

DOS - Epson says it only works in black.

Linux - prints a total blank with stcolor or st800. Not ESC P/2.

Online research shows that it is supported by gimp-print (aka gutenprint),
which is 5MB of source code to support lots of newer printers including
Lexmark. Slackware 10.1 comes with it.

Does anyone knowledgeable want to compile gimp-print for BL3.40? I
already compiled Ghostscript 8.50 - does it really have to be done at the
same time or can you add drivers later?

Is there some way to compile JUST the driver for the newer Epsons?

gimp-print is supposed to work with three other printing systems - CUPS,
Foomatic and The Gimp. I could install 2GB of SW10.2 to try it with.

Does pnmtops convert images to something that will print the same number
of pixels the original image was, or something that will fill the entire
page width? If the latter, I will forget this as a linux printer, because
I want to print 1:1 to keep photos looking good (1280x960 = 8 per page).
The Stylus Color 800 printed some awful looking photos with gs, with an
interference pattern. HP's printing at 300 dpi look much better but the
cartridges are very hard to refill and clog quickly with non-use.
