Hi Steven & John

I noticed that the "ping" response is different when I first boot up from
what it is after I look at pppsetup without even making changes, just
exit with ^xn.

Fresh boot it says -

/#ppp-on
/usr/sbin/pppd: This system lacks kernel support for PPP. blah blah blah
service @0: pppd failure at 9:30PM Fri 11, 2006

After looking at pppsetup -

/<#>ppp-on
registered device pp0
Removed stale lock on ttyS0 (pid49)
Serial connection established.
Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
Remote mesage ^D^EM-t^B^F
local IP address 67.150.121.58
remote IP address 63.93.65.82
service #0: ppp0 67.150.121.58 to 63.93.65.82 up since 9:40PM Fri Aug
11,2006

0 0 0 ppp0
/<#>nslookup slashdot.org 64.136.21.200

And John, the /etc/host.conf file says -

order hosts, bind
multi on

Hope all the above gives a clue to what's going on, and hope I didn't
make any typo's.

Thanks, Jerry
