Dear all,
some days ago our friend Karl W. Randolph put the question whether word
M'D might be (in Psa 31:12) a Pi'el Participle of the verbal base 'YD
(aleph, yod, daleth).
I have since remarked that in a general way, verbs ayin-waw (mainly
those with a guttural for their first root consonant) either have NO piel
conjugation (1) or match, for their piel, the pattern that doubles the final
root consonant (2) and then it is called 'polel' rather than piel.
(1) This is the case for 'WR, to be light (' = aleph)
(2) This is the case for 'WR, to awake (' = ayin) (look at 2Sa 23:18). Look
also at Lm 3:11.
Do you think I'm right?
