Peniel:
You need to read this in context of the previous verse: translated
semi-literally, "Why are you angry? And why did your face fall? Is it not
that if you do well you will lift it up? And if you do not do well, …" Here
you have the contrast between fallen and lifted up.

The translators of the RSV took this in the context of verse 5, then did not
translate it literally.
