Yaakov,
Rashi, after saying W-AL TI-TMAH for the plural, brings there, in
Genesis 20:13, the example of Samuel 7:13, where King David, in one
of his more expansive poetical moments, says: A$ER HALKU ELOHIM
LIPDOT LO L(AM, but the verse ends on an ambiguous note, possibly due
to the good king becoming giddy out of shear reverential excitement.
I see also that Unkelos endeavors to translate Genesis 20:13 by quite
a twist:
וַהֲוָה כַּד טְעוֹ עַמְמַיָּא בָּתַר
עוּבָדֵי יְדֵיהוֹן יָתִי קָרֵיב
יְיָ לְדַחְלְתֵיהּ מִבֵּית אַבָּא
all in an effort to avoid a plural reference to an act by the God of
Abraham.
In Psalms 58:12 King David is at it again.
