Dr. Segall,
It is true that the Cherokee word for Yahweh is Yi-Ho-Wa
but that is because the majority of Cherokee (or Tsalagi as
they refer to themselves in their own language) coverted to
Christianity 200 years ago and simply transliterated the
Yahweh to Yi-Ho-Wa. The Cherokee word for Jesus is * tsi-
sa * and for Lord it is * ga-lu-hlo *. I doubt anyone
would claim these conserve ancient Hebrew pronounciations.
To the extent that modern Cherokees are Christian, their
beliefs are no doubt have some similarity to Phariseeic
Judaism. Their pre-Columbian beliefs are however, not so
similar. Do-na-da-`go-v-i (which is to say...Shalom).
