B-Haverim:
In Judges 6:34, some translations and some commentaries speak about the
Spirit of YHWH "putting on" or "clothing himself with" Gideon. Others,
however, speak about the Spirit "clothing" Gideon. In the one case,
Gideon is the garment. In the other, the Spirit is the garment.
According to Holladay's lexicon, the word LaBaSH with an accusative
normally means "put on," which points to the former interpretation. Are
there cases, however, where the direct object of LaBaSH is the object
being clothed by someone else?
I appreciate any help you can offer in choosing between these options.
Who is wearing whom here?
Regards,
John
