B-Hebrew List Members,
In our second-year class, we have begun work on inscriptional Semitics. I
have a question about the Moabite Stone. We discussed in class the
different reconstructions that are possible for the tie between lines 3 and
4. I am wondering what would be a reasonable fill-in. I think we ended on
something like BFMFT Y"$A` (the mem, tav and yod being supplied and the
shin and ayin coming from line 4), this meaning something like "a high
place of deliverance." Does anyone on the list have more ready knowledge
of this stone and the different attempts at reconstruction of lines 3-4?
Also, any information dealing with other gaps would help.
One other thing, do we know anything about QRXH from the same line? Is
that a place name or something like "bald/barren place"?
LINES 3 and 4 (question places underlined):

WKY HR'NI BKL &N'Y `[MR]Y
"I reigned after my father. And I made this high place (BMH) unto Chemosh
_in Qarcho_ (?). [It is] _a high place of deliverance_ (?) because he
delivered me from all the kings and because he caused me to look upon all
FYI, we have already gone through Hezekiah's tunnel inscription. I would
like any available information on these two inscriptions. Thanks so much
for you time!
