Not F.F.Bruce but A.B.Bruce (Expo.GNT vol1 p. 166) who suggests that
the agent here is "the tempter" a human agent of "the devil."
Apparently A.B.Bruce found it hard to reconcile hO QEOS with YUCHN
KAI SWMA APOLESAI EN GEENNHi.
