ACTS 20:13 hHMEIS DE PROELQONTES EPI TO PLOION ANHCQHMEN EPI THN
ASSON EKEIQEN MELLONTES ANALAMBANEIN TON PAULON: hOUTWS GAR
DIATETAGMENOS HN MELLWN AUTOS PEZEUEIN.

It has been suggested that PROSELQONTES would be a probable scribal
improvement of this passage and for that reason PROELQONTES is more
likely to be original. Why would PROSELQONTES be considered an
improvement. It certainly doesn't fit the context as well as
PROELQONTES.

Another issue here is EPI used to mark a GOAL (see BDAG p.364 #4). I
was tempted to read EPI TO PLOION as "on the boat" and take hHMEIS DE
PROELQONTES EPI TO PLOION as statement that temporally overlapped
with the ANHCQHMEN EPI THN ASSON but the aorist PROELQONTES is
against that reading. I wonder, if we had a present participle here,
would that still be an unGreek way of reading this? How would we say
in Koine "We went ahead on the boat, sailing to Assos."?
