WHY study Greek?! Why? Oh, my goodness!!!
My Pastor began teaching us Greek last year about September or October, and I can't begin to tell you how vividly it has brought to life the Word of God. It hasn't been easy- we started out with about 14 and have dwindled down to 3. A very determined, dedicated 3 that burn with a passion to fully and clearly understand God's word as it was laid down in it's "original" language.
There have been SO many passages we have translated that bring me to tears or give me chills as I understand-clearly-for the first time- what the passage really says. Or that leave me-jaw dropped-saying "Wow..." in holy awe. I have such a deeper appreciation for the Scripture now- and as a result have become a louder, clearer "voice crying out in the wilderness" to help others gain a deeper understanding of the Scriptures. This, as we see it is the main reason for studying Greek. Once we have a better grasp of the Word, we can use this knowledge to help others. If it doesn't help us become better Christians it is FULOS. Worthless. Foolishness.
Think of the Bible as "God TV" if you will. The NIV, NASB and some others are 19" B/W sets. Forgive me if I offend, but I would term the KJV a "Sony Watchman" B/W. But the Greek..... Ah. Now HERE you have the wide-screen, DVD in brilliant Technicolor.
As Christians, we have sworn allegiance to Jesus Christ as our Lord, Saviour and Master. How anyone could take their position as a DOULOS of Christ so lightly as to not be interested in learning more about Him and "the word of the Prophets made more sure" is beyond me.
